I was able to catch up with 2024 Destrehan Athlete Anthony Robinson III who is one of the top players in the state. 247 Sports has him as the 8th best player in the state and the No. 30 athlete in the country. He shared with me his thoughts on recruiting, LSU and family ties to the LSU football program.
The 6'1"- 190lbs athlete holds 13 offers, including Baylor, Miami, Miss State, Notre Dame, and Ole Miss. Last season he registered 87 tackles, 2 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble return and an impressive 13 PBU. He has set some lofty personal and team goals for himself. He stated he wants to " Win a state championship, 5 interceptions and be player of the year." Robinson did let me know he has some family ties with a great grandfather that played for the Tigers.
I asked him if he has any players, he models his game after and he add " I like Derwin James a lot." On his own game he described himself as " versatile, think I can do a lot on both sides of the ball." He says the schools he is hearing from the most is " Notre Dame, Miami, Ole Miss and TCU."
From the LSU side he says, "I've spoken to Coach Cooks for a while " and that he plans on visiting LSU this summer. Robinson is someone who in my opinion is a great athlete who can do it all on defense. He has great athleticism. to be able to close down the ball carrier, he has a high football IQ and is usually found in the right spots. Where i find his athleticism is on full display is off of turnovers with the ball in his hands. He is definitely going to be one to pay attention to this coming season.
