In our recent installments covering the LSU Softball signees and commitments we have seen some amazing talents and today is no different with 2024 commitment Destiny Harris, the elite OF from Norfolk, VA. Perfect Game has her rated as the No. 38 overall player in the country. She plays travel ball with Virginia Unity Softball
Her stats jump off the page as they match her lofty ranking. She has a .592 Batting Average, .677 On Base Percentage, Slugging % is 1.265 for an impressive OPS % of 1.942.
She also has 2 doubles , 1 triple and 8 home runs with 33 RBI. All while stealing 21 bases and striking out only a mere 3 times in 65 plate appearances.
I asked what schools was she deciding between before choosing LSU and she replied with "there were quite a few at one point but after a few camps at LSU, I couldn’t deny the feeling of really wanting to make that my home, a place to play and continue my education. I know I wanted to play in the SEC and that made my decision easier." What was it about LSU helped her to realize it was the school for her "the Coaches, the Staff, the Players made everything seem unreal and amazing to be there. The coaching staff along with the players at LSU made me comfortable. Their commitment to each other and the program, along with having fun, is what really made me know for sure LSU was the school for me."
On where LSU is planning to use her "I can see myself playing centerfield for LSU. But, I am ready to learn and play anywhere that’s needed to help the team be successful. " I asked her what are some of her accomplishments she is most proud of and she says "winning the 2021 PGF Championship with Unity Johnson/Ross has to be one of the top highlights. Along with being selected as an Futures All American to play with some of the top athletes in the country. Also, helping my High School Softball team make it to States for the first time ever in School History. Placing 3rd in the Indoor Track 5A Virginia States in the 55M dash."
On if there any commitments she is looking forward to playing with "I play with Jayden Heavener on Unity now. We have a really good bond and I am super excited to play with her in college. I know I don’t have to say much that you all don’t know but she’s really good!" Regarding her relationship with the coaching staff at LSU "My relationship is pretty good I would say. They are some great people. They always want the best for us on the field but even more off the field. They do have sense of humor and this makes it fun to be around and really made it easy for me to be comfortable and perform at my best."
When i asked what she can be found doing when not playing softabll she said " well, if I’m not on the track field as well. I enjoy being with my sister and friends, just hanging out with them, usually going shopping or seeing movies." On what LSU fans can expect out of her "First and foremost, they’re getting a dedicated student-athlete. In addition, they’re getting extreme energy both on and off the field. And, a person who will do whatever it takes to get the job done in representing LSU at the highest level."
