Southwest Louisiana is home to many of the nations top high school baseball players and one of the best is Jake Brown of the Sulphur Tors. Jake just won the Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year . Perfect Game has Brown ranked as the No. 110 Overall player in the Country and the No.17 LHP . Brown holds the No. 1 ranking for the state of Louisiana.
The 6'2"-190lbs lefty just wrapped up his Senior campaign with a 10-2 record and a 1.71 ERA. In his 14 appearance he had 73.67 innings pitched and totaled 118 strikeouts and only 27 walks. His 14.41 Strikeouts per 9 innings is also very impressive. Brown on the end of season and what he takes away from it "We lost to Barbe in the semi finals for state. All I can take from it is that it’s time to really get to work and get prepared to bring my absolute best to Baton Rouge."
Jake is currently throwing a Fastball that lives in the 90-93mph range and has topped out at 95mph. His Change-up and Slider are in the 82-84 range and a Curve-ball in 73-76 range.I asked Brown what he feels his strongest attribute is and he said "Strongest attribute is my competitive nature." Regarding what he feels are his most accomplishments he is most proud of "Committing to LSU, Winning gold with team USA."
On if LSU fans need to worry about him headed to the MLB "I really look forward to coming to campus. It’ll take something really special to get me out of the purple and gold I’ve always dreamed of". Johnson says he moves in the first week of July for summer school and workouts. He is looking forward to playing with some other commits "Griffin Cooley, Kade Anderson, and Blake Mitchell are all friends." He is also looking forward to playing with some current Tigers "Gavin Guidry and Ethan Frey are both old friends so I’m excited to play with them I think it’ll be a blast."
We discussed high school baseball in SW Louisiaba and I asked the question, is there a better area of the country for HS baseball ? Brown replied " I don’t think there’s anything like it. Us (Sulphur), Barbe, and Sam Houston were all ranked nationally throughout the season and all finished in the top 25. Competition and the level of ball here is insane" On what he wants LSU fans to know about him "to know that they’re getting a player who will do whatever it takes to win and bring home a Natty." On what he is going to miss the most about his days of playing at Sulphur "Hanging out with all my friends that I’ve grown up with and being around my guys every day." LSU is getting a very hard worker in Jake Brown both on the field and in the community.
Jake has a special foundation he partnered with throughout the season, The Awesome Association is a local organization dedicated to giving kids with disabilities a chance to enjoy the sports that we all know and love. Through his GoFund me a total of $7,162 has been raised and if you would like to donate the link is below.
