As the LSU Tigers baseball squad makes their 8th appearance in the College World Series Finals, I will review the Top 3 things that stood out in them getting to the finals.
1.Paul Skenes - Skenes has had a legendary season and supplanted LSU great Ben McDonald for the single season strikeout record with 209 strike outs on the season. His dominance has continued in Omaha as he gave the Tigers 15.2 innings, 21K, 2ER and 2 walks.
2. The LSU Bullpen - Going into postseason play the LSU bullpen is what many thought would hamper their postseason dreams in Omaha. It has proved completely opposite. It seems no matter who LSU sends out there, they just get the job done. This group has been stellar to say the least .
3. Tre' Morgan - Not only has Morgan been one of the Tigers hottest bats during the CWS he has continued to show what ELITE defensive play is all about from acrobatic plays at 1B to the play that will go down in LSU folklore where he charged home plate to make the catch and throw to prevent Wake Forest from getting on the board.
Also, something that cannot be overlooked is the timely hitting of Beloso, White and Crews. They have not all had standout performances in this CWS leading up to the finals BUT they have provided timely hitting when the team needed them most. None more than the Tommy White walk off to end the pitching duel of the season and advance the Tigers to the CWS.
