In our last post, we were totally impressed by the awesome talent of the draft picks, especially Jay Johnson's amazing skills. But now, let's talk about the transfer portal - it's where athletes go for a new beginning, face new challenges, and aim to shine in new settings. We'll be looking at the pitchers in this part, and we'll have a separate piece on the position players.
Jacob Mayers: 6'5" Right-Handed Pitcher from Nicholls State
The towering Gonzales, Louisiana native is going into his junior season and is one of four of the Top 100 2025 draft prospects the Tigers are adding and one of two Top 100 arms for next years draft . Mayers was the Collegiate Baseball National Freshman Pitcher of the Year as a freshman and earned a spot on the Freshman All-American Team. He registered a 14-2 record with a 3.26 ERA and 211 strikeouts (146.1 IP) the last 2 years.
Zac Cowan: 5'11" Right-Handed Pitcher from Wofford
Jay Johnson had a prime view to witness Zac Cowan, the standout right-handed pitcher from All-SoCon, in action when they were paired with LSU in the Chapel Hill Regional. Cowan boasted an impressive record of 10-2 with 124 strikeouts and 29 walks in 110 innings, all while upholding a 3.35 ERA. Cowan's exceptional performance made him a coveted talent once he became available for recruitment.
Anthony Eyanson: Talented 6'2" Right-Handed Pitcher from UC San Diego
He is more than just a name; he's a budding star ready to shine brightly on the diamond. Eligible for the 2025 draft with a Top 100 ranking, Eyanson has already caught the attention of scouts and experts, with many projecting him to be an early-round pick. His impressive 6-2 record in 14 appearances, including 9 starts and a save, speaks volumes about his skill and determination on the mound. The Tigers' faithful can expect fireworks every time he takes the mound with his impressive arsenal featuring a 4-seam fastball (95-97 mph), slider (83 mph), and curveball (77-79 mph).
Deven Sheerin: Right-Handed Pitcher from Mount St. Mary's
The impressive 6'5" 245-pound right-handed pitcher has made a remarkable entrance onto the scene following an outstanding debut season in college baseball where he dominated his opponents. Sheerin exhibited his exceptional skills with his 98 mph fastball while striking out 109 batters in 70 innings pitched. He maintained a 4.76 ERA in and only gave up 32 walks.
Connor Benge: Right-Handed Pitcher from Dallas Baptist
During the recent season at DBU, Benge showcased his pitching prowess by delivering a total of 33.0 innings on the mound with a tally of 35 strikeouts.Benge maintained a (5.73 ERA), It is worth noting that Benge primarily served as a reliever for a highly skilled team, indicating his reliability and effectiveness in high-pressure situations. His contributions from the bullpen played a crucial role in supporting his team's success throughout the season, highlighting his value as a key player in the lineup.
Luke Hayden: Talented 6'1" Right-Handed Pitcher from Indiana State
As the Second Team pick for the 2024 MVC Baseball All-Conference had some solid stats in different areas within the MVC. They ranked third in ERA with 3.81, seventh in opponent batting average at .248 over 78.0 innings pitched, second in strikeouts with 81, second in strikeouts looking with 25, and second in runners picked off with 3. He started in all 16 appearances during the 2024 season as a pitcher. He ended up with a 7-2 record. He was drafted and signed by the Cincinnati Reds.
Chandler Dorsey: Talented 6'4" Right-Handed Pitcher from South Florida
Led the pitching staff by making 26 relief appearances as the team’s main closer, finishing the season with a record of 2-1 and eight saves. He posted a 3.60 ERA (12 ER/30.0 IP), a 1.20 WHIP, and recorded 40 strikeouts, while limiting opposing batters to a .180 average. Impressively, he kept a clean sheet in 18 of his appearances, including a streak of six consecutive games to end the season.
