LSU Softball's Commit Giselle De Casas Goes in Depth on her commitment, Her Mexican-American Heritage and More !

When it comes to softball, talent knows no bounds. LSU's softball team recently made a phenomenal addition to their roster with the commitment of a talented Middle Infielder, who not only brings exceptional skills to the table but also proudly represents her Mexican-American heritage with every game she plays. Let's dive into the story of this rising star, from her outstanding performance on the field to the deep-rooted values she holds dear. She took the time to discuss her decision to commit to LSU, her Mexican- American heritage and more in this article.

Choosing LSU: A Journey to Finding Home

We discussed why she chose the Tigers over other schools, and she said, "LSU felt like my home away from home. Family is a big part of my life, and the entire softball program treated me like one of their own since the minute I arrived. Coaching has always been an important factor for me when it came down to making my decision. When I met Coach Beth, Coach Bryce, Coach Sandra, and Coach Zach for the first time, there was an immediate connection. I love how they run their program and the values they stand by." She echoed a sentiment that numerous LSU commitments have previously expressed to me, "so, I loved how LSU provides many opportunities for academic support when it comes to their athletes. The entire softball program was welcoming, and knowing that they have very supportive and passionate fans made me feel like LSU was the place I was looking for."

She went on to discuss the process stating "there were other schools that were considered. Although, once I chose to go on an official-visit to LSU, I fell in love right away and that’s when I knew that LSU was the perfect place for me." She continued to detail her experience saying "Since the first camp I attended, I automatically knew the entire coaching staff was what I was looking for. They are passionate, caring, love to teach the game, super fun but when it’s go time, IT’S GO TIME! I love coaches that believe in me and that will push me to be the best player and person I can be. This describes the entire LSU coaching staff. I liked how I could have a conversation regarding softball with the coaches but easily switch to a more personal level getting to know each other deeper. When I met Coach Beth, Coach Bryce, Coach Sandra and Coach Zach it felt just right and I knew these were the perfect coaches for me."

A Closer Look at the Phenomenal Stats

This talented Middle Infielder, currently standing out on the Universal Macias 18u team, has garnered attention from money college coaches vying for her commitment as a result of her outstanding performance on the field. Her summer travel ball statistics are a true reflection of her dedication and skill.

She boasts a .413 Batting Average, an impressive 1.107 OPS, 50 Hits, 42 RBIs, 32 singles, 13 doubles, 1 triple, and 4 home runs. These figures go beyond mere numbers; they underscore her unwavering love for the game and her relentless pursuit of excellence. With each swing and every play, she exudes a unique energy that distinguishes her from her peers.

Giselle described to me just what it is she feels makes her a successful athlete, stating, "I believe the main attributes that contribute to me being a great athlete are being HUMBLE, PASSIONATE, SELFLESS, DETERMINED, and MENTALLY STRONG. All these things have allowed me to overcome all those ups and downs that come with playing the game of softball." Some of her favorite accomplishments are "receiving my seal of Biliteracy in Spanish, being awarded Rookie of the Year, 1st Team All League, and Offensive MVP."

"I want LSU fans to know that they are getting someone that is committed, fearless, determined, passionate and I will forever have the pride of being a Tiger." - Giselle De Casas

Embracing Mexican-American Heritage

Beyond her remarkable athletic prowess, this gifted player also carries a rich cultural heritage that she proudly showcases both on and off the field. As a Mexican-American, she embodies the spirit of diversity and unity, celebrating her roots through every game she plays as she said "Ever since I started playing softball at the age of 6 I fell in love with the game. As the years passed I continued to work hard and improve my skills at every practice and game. I was driven to follow my dreams and to also be an example to younger players in my community. I love playing for my family and making them proud. They have sacrificed so much for me and making them proud fills my heart with happiness. Opportunities like these don’t happen often to athletes in my community. Which is why I play every game as if it was my last and I firmly believe that with passion and drive, anything is possible. Being Mexican-American has also driven me to want to represent not only my family but also represent the Latino/a community by showing that anything is possible with hard work and dedication."

Her commitment to representing her heritage serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes from similar backgrounds, showcasing the power of inclusivity and representation in sports. In a world where diversity is celebrated more than ever, her presence on the field sends a powerful message of unity and pride.

Family: The Strongest Support System

Behind every successful athlete is a strong support system, and for this rising star, her family plays a pivotal role in shaping her journey. Their unwavering encouragement, sacrifices, and love have been the driving force behind her achievements, instilling in her the values of determination and resilience. She says "My parents and siblings have been a huge influence in my softball journey. They have not only sacrificed so much for me but they have poured every ounce of their passion, knowledge and energy to be able to make me the athlete and person I am today." She also recognized different role models in her life " I am also extremely grateful to have had so many influential coaches both past and present during my softball journey. Each one of my coaches have taught me something special that I will cherish and take with me over to LSU. Both my family and coaches have pushed me to become the best version of myself and for that I am grateful and will continue to work hard so that one day people will know the last name De Casas."

She touched more on family " Something that is really important to me is spending time with family. My family is a huge part of my life and they have always been my rock." When not playing softball she says you can find her doing many other things such as " I really enjoy hiking, gardening, baking and cooking."

She says "A fun fact about me is that I enjoy every genre of music."
