Signing day has come and gone for LSU Volleyball and they brought in some elite HS talent to continue to help Head Coach Tonya Johnson to build the program. For signing day they dipped into one of the top club programs in the country in Madfrog Volleyball Club with the additions of outside hitters Lainee Pyles (Keller, Texas) and Brianna Watson (Flower Mound, Texas). Pyles, who stands at 6-2 won the Tournament MVP in the USA Volleyball All-Star Tournament. Watson is a 6-1 outside hitter who was selected as 2023 AVCA Girls High School All-American Honorable Mention in addition to being named 17U All-American by Prep Volleyball . The pair were big parts of Madfrog Volleyball Club's 2022 National Championship.
Not stopping there as they went out to Indiana to bring in Aly Kirkhoff a 5-6 libero who is a two-time All-State selection. Kirkhoff was placed on the 2022 Indy Star Central Indiana All-USA Super Team First Team. Kirkhoff is a member of the Team Indiana Volleyball Club team. Kirkhoff was recently named a 2023 AVCA Girls High School All-American.
They added a super dynamic player in Jessica Jones (Frisco, Texas) a 6-2 middle blocker who was selected as the District 9-5A Blocker of the Year and named to the 2022 Dallas Morning News All-Area First Team in addition to being named as a 2023 AVCA Girls High School All-American. “Jess is one of the most disciplined middle blockers in the country,” Coach Johnson said. "Her work ethic, combined with her quickness on the floor, will make her a threat on both sides of the ball.”
After Signing Day came and went the Tigers added one more addition to the signing class with a homegrown talent Sophie Bonnaffee. She is 5'7" libero who just won her third state volleyball title with Archbishop Hannan High School in Covington, LA. She capped her prep career with 1,981 kills, 1,371 digs and 228 aces.
Transfer Portal Additions Don't Dissapoint
The first addition they made was Ana Tevdoradze out of Miami Dade College and a member of the Georgian National Team . She is a 6'3" outside hitter who was named NJCAA First All-American Team and Second Team AVCA All American. On the season her stats were 331 kills and an average of 4.5 points per set and 3.94 kills per set, with a hitting percentage of .277. As well as her offensive firepower she was equally impressive on the defensive side of the ball. where she contributed 226 digs, 27 service aces, and 21 blocks.
The Tigers continuing with another impressive portal addition out of the Big 10 with Iowa Setter Bailey Ortega who is a grad transfer . Bailey sits at 9th Place All-Time for career assists at Iowa with 2,174 total.
