The LSU Volleyball program will officially start year 2 of the Tonya Johnson era on Friday, Aug. 25 at 6:30 p.m. (CT) and Saturday, Aug. 26 at 5 p.m. (CT). Both matches can be viewed on SEC Network+. We will dive into getting to know the opponent .
The Bruins are also in the beginning stages of a new era under first-year head coach Alfee Reft. The Bruins are 49-4 all-time in season-opening matches. After going coming off a seventh-place finish in the Pac-12 a year ago with a 16-13 overall record and a 10-10 conference record, the Bruins were picked to finish fifth in the Pac-12 Preseason Coaches Poll.
The Bruins lose 4 starters and return 3 with 7 newcomers being added to the roster. Defensively the charge will be led by Redshirt Senior Anna Dodson who was selected to the Pre-Season All Pac 12 team and has led the Bruins in blocks two years consecutively. Also of note, Dodson was teammates with LSU standout Anita Anwusi for the USA Volleyball 2023 Women's Collegiate National Team.
Offensively the Bruins are led by Iman Ndiaye who ranked 2nd on the team with 269 kills and 3rd with 307 total points. Last season she selected to All-Pac 12 Honorable mention. Like LSU, who brought in a do it all freshman in Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year in AC Froehlich, UCLA is also bringing in one of the top players in the country in Ashley Mullen. Mullen was ranked as the No.4 setter and No.26 overall and was listed as a First Team High School All American out of Kansas City, MO.
Let's show up early and pack the PMAC for what seems to be the beginning to another huge season for an LSU women's program and show these lady tigers some support and set the season off with a bang !!
