No. 2 Nationally Ranked, LSU Softball Sa'Mya Jones Dishes on her season and future in Baton Rouge

The 2024 recruiting class is loaded with talent and it starts with Sa'Mya Jones from Pearland, Texas. Jones is ranked No. 2 overall by Perfect Game and is top 5 in all other rankings for softball. She is well deserving of the rankings as you will see in her stats listed below.

High School season in 36 games played: .522 Batting average, .629 On Base Percentage 1.002 Slugging Percentage, 20/20 stolen bases (never been thrown out all 3 years of high school), 21 extra base hits and 41 RBIs.

Jones is listed here at No. 2 while Jayden Heavener is listed at No.4

On what other teams she was considering Jones stated "As I came down to make the decision to commit to LSU. The other schools I considered heavily were also great programs, schools like the University of Tennessee and Stanford University. But, I came to the decision that LSU was the school for me."

What about LSU sold Jones "LSU was always a school that was high on my list, but I still kept my options open until the time felt right for me to decide where I will attend college to be a student-athlete. I feel what made LSU the school for me is seeing the competition I will get to face here, while being surrounded by a community I fell in love with."

Jones on where she sees herself playing "I am primarily middle infield plus utility. Although, I can’t speak for where the coaches will put me because things can always change. I do know that the LSU coaches will do what’s best for the team and whether I am Shortstop, Second base, Outfield etc. I can play any position at a high level and will play any position to the best of my ability."

We discussed her relationship with the coaching staff and she stated " I have attended LSU camps since I was about 8 years old, so I am very familiar with the coaching staff. They have also seen me attend camps since I was 8 years old, so they are very familiar with my game. From what I have experienced, the coaches all have different personalities in some way, that I come to love very much. I would say I’m a real easy going person, and they all fit my personality well. On top of that, I have so much respect and love for the coaches already which also took part in my decision."

Jones is eager to hit the field with this 2024 class " I am super excited to get on the field with all the 2024 committees (Jayden Heavener, Zoe Calvez, Alix Franklin, Jada Philips, and Destiny Harris). I feel we have some extreme talent in this class and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out." On what LSU fans can expect " I would like LSU fans to know they are getting a motivated, unselfish athlete. I have many tools like speed, power, range, and understanding of the game that is all driven by my passion for softball. I love seeing my teammates, my coaches, the team, and University succeed. They should expect to see a competitor who has a whole lot of FUN!"

On an accomplishment she is proud of "I have been ranked top 3 in multiple rankings, and although I don’t let the rankings define me, i still believe that it is dashing to see myself ranked very high with so many other amazingly, talented athletes. So, i would have to admit that is an accomplishment i am proud of." She says when not playing or practicing "I’ll always enjoy a good time hanging out with my friends. I am always down for some time to just relax and have some fun off the field, whether it’s going out and being active or just hanging out around the house laughing."

As a stated at the beginning of this article Sa'Mya is one of many dangerous weapons in this 2024 class and Louisiana is in for a treat.
