LSU softball signed one of the premier infielders in the 2023 cycle in Tori Edwards out of Texas. In the 2023 class Edwards is ranked as the No.21 overall player in Extra Innings 2023 Extra Elite 100 and she has had an impressive year on the diamond this season.
Current Stats on the Season : .545 Batting Average, .653 On Base Percentage46 , 12 Doubles, 2 Triples, and 11 Homeruns. She shows a great eye for the ball as she drew 23 walks in 77 at bats. She also scored 46 runs and had 34 RBI's.
A big part of Tori's game is her power hitting and I asked her if it is an emphasis for in training "I would say its definitely something I heavily focus. I was given the gift of size and strength so incorporating power in my swing comes easier to me then other players in the game. So why not use that ability to set myself aside from other players. I still have much development left so I just continue to work on getting faster and stronger and building a powerful swing."
Edwards on if she has any ties to LSU and she says "I have zero family ties to LSU but two of my brother's closest friends including LSU quarterback, Garrett Nussmeier, go to LSU and are really close to my family. They had no effect in my decision but I am really glad to have two big brothers when I get to LSU! " What exactly was it that made her feel LSU was the school for her ? She added "I knew LSU was a perfect fit the minute we left the campus that Sunday morning following my official visit. To be completely honest LSU was not a school I was expecting to be considering during the 2021 summer season, but I couldn’t be more grateful that I came across the opportunity. It took me a week or less to call Coach Torina and finalize my decision. I had 6 schools I was deciding between and LSU was the only place that could fit all of my needs and values. My official was the first time I had actually ever been to LSU and the environment and facilities blew me away. I looked around and all I could do is think of myself being one of the thousands of students calling LSU home every day."
On who LSU won her signature over "I had 22 offers in total but before I made my final decision I narrowed it down to 6 schools: LSU, Oregon, Florida, Oklahoma State, Stanford and Duke." Regarding her relationship with the LSU staff "Just a lot of built up excitement and readiness to finally have me become a Tiger. The coaching staff is so welcoming and a major factor in my decision to come to LSU was the family feel they gave me throughout every interaction. From the coaches to the managers and the trainers they are all so friendly and make me even more excited every time I get to see/talk to them. Its a whole big family and I am so excited to be coached under them." Where does the coaching staff see her playing "Honestly any place where I am needed. I play Corners/OF and where ever I need to fill in at the time to be in the lineup I’ll be ready. Could be times where I may just be DP but when its my time to get on the field I could end up at 1st base or in the outfield."
Tori shared with me her thoughts on the 2023 recruiting class "I have met and talked to all of the commits plenty of times and I am all around excited for our ‘23 group. The only player I have played with in past years is Maddie Mckee in the USA Softball All American Games. I am very excited to play with all the girls and start our tiger journey together." Regarding what she wants LSU fans to know about her "I enjoy just spending time with family and friends if we go out or just stay in. When I’m alone I spend a lot of time at the gym or binge watching a TV show."
