Stunner Gonzales the La Costa Canyon star pitcher committed to LSU and Coach Jay Johnson on October 9th 2022. Gonzales has elite velocity and with his size, there will be more to be squeezed out of this premier prospect. On the season he pitched 55 innings with a 2.6 ERA and totaled 54 strikeouts.

On what stood out to LSU for Gonzales "I love the environment and the fan base that LSU has." He is looking forward to teaming up with this 2024 class"I have played with a few of my future teammates and they are all great baseball players." He added "I’ve played with Matthew Champion, Danny Arambula, Cam Caminiti, Derek Curiel, and Max Charles and they are all amazing players and super fun people too."

I asked him being a west coast guy coming play down south in the SEC, did he grow up an LSU fan or is there a connection with Jay from his Arizona days ? He stated "I didn’t know Coach Johnson when he was at Arizona I always knew I wanted to play in the SEC I’m glad LSU is giving me that chance" Why the SEC ? "It’s the best competition and the fan bases are amazing in the SEC."

On his strongest attribute "My strongest attribute is my height cause it helps my fastball have more velo." Regarding his favorite accomplishment "I won a gold medal with team USA." On who he was considering when making the decision to commit to LSU he added"My top three were LSU, USC, and Oregon."

He shared his thoughts on what his goal is regarding the MLB Draft and college "I would love to play baseball at LSU That’s the goal." Also, on his thoughts on Wes Johnson leaving "I’m sad he’s leaving but I know they will get somebody that can fill his shoes well."
